February 24 St. Prætextatus of Rouen

Although St. Prætextatus was involved in several ecclesiastical councils and was a well versed theologian, he is best known for his political involvement. After his first run in with a corrupt king, he was exiled to the worse possible place the king could imagine – Jersey. After that king died, he was reinstated to bishop’s seat in Rouen, where he started publically chastising the queen, Clotaire for the murders of Sigebert, her brother-in-law: Chilperic, her husband; Clovis, her stepson; and Merovech, Prætextatus’ godson. She responded by having him murdered at the altar. Makes the Wisconsin governor look like a pussy cat.
